March in Venice brings collective memories of spring festivities: Did you know that during the times of La Serenissima Republic, that is until 1797, the city used to celebrate New Year’s Day (anno nuovo, more veneto) on March 1st?
All during a time when the first blossoms of spring in March envelop in the city in such colorful hues: In my opinion, the protagonista (main character) of the life in Venice right now is mimosa pudica, the yellow mimosa tree.
